long cool woman in a black dress.

today was a very good day in the life of je'.

i went record shopping in san francisco with my pop. now, there was no real specific reason to go into san francisco just to go record shopping, except that it was just somewhere fun to go. we browsed through records for about 3-4 hours and i felt like i was in a crash course of rock history, it was so much fun! we picked out about 20-30 records, but widdled the selection down to ten:

abba - greatest hits vol. 2
the beatles - hard day's night soundtrack
black sabbath - master of reality
bob dylan - the freewheelin' bob dylan
the byrds - greatest hits
the hollies - distant light
micheal jackson - thriller
nico - all tomorrow's parties
neil young - after the gold rush
sly & the family stone - greatest hits

the afternoon was filled with my dad saying "oh, here we go, what about ___, do you have this?" and if i responded negatively his usual response was something like, "oh, come on! whatya doin'! you GOTTA have this one! add that to your pile!" on the other hand, i think he was a bit surprised, but rather proud, at some of the selections i do already have. he told me stories of the concerts he went to when he was my age, about the first stereo he bought himself, and even showed me which current rap artists i should be paying attention to. my dad has so much knowledge about anything and everything it amazes me, but i particularly love to talk with him about music which, obviously, is why today was so awesome.

after record shopping we headed back to my neck o' the woods but stopped and got some food. they were playing stuff like keeley smith, frank sinatra, sammy davis, etc. during dinner and we were both lovin' it! again, i think i may have impressed my dad by being able to name who we were listening to with each new song that came on. at one point we heard a song come on from a fred astaire/ginger rogers movie and my dad couldn't place it and for once i got to tell him what it was because i recognized it first! that rarely happens with my pa so i had to mention it.

i also picked up some great family history i'd never heard before and it made me appreciate them even more... i find my family fascinating! anywho, here's a picture of me and my pop in the city...

and here i am back at home with all my loot!
